My "vacation weekend in Vienna" was two weekends ago. A lot of my Erasmus friends from the Winter semester came back to Vienna over the weekend and we had an amazing time in the sunny and HOT city. Detailed description below:
On Wednesday, my weekend officially started. I have class until 19.30 in the evening and then no class on Thursday and Friday. Right after class I went to Türkenchanzpark and met up with my friend Katharina and her friends. There was an outdoor music festival in the park and soooo many young people were there picnicking (no really, you could barely walk on the grass, it was so overly crowded with blankets and people), drinking alcohol and enjoying the music somewhere in the background.
On Thursday, I met up with Nina for our Icelandic lesson (yup, I am assisting a Viennese lady with the language in exchange for cash, pretty good deal to me since she is a beginner). After that, I went to Stadtpark and met my lovely friends from last semester and we enjoyed the sun for a while.
In the evening, we dressed up and crashed some guys' apartment at the Molkerei student house and kept the party going on Praterdome's second floor where we finally were able to use our r'n'b moves and danced through the night.
On Friday I was woken up early in the morning by Ingibjörg and I ignored my hangover and joined her and Annukka at the Badstrand at Alte Donau. We spent the day there relaxing and well, taning.
On Saturday, I had class in the morning but met up with the kids at Museumsquartier for an outdoor lunch. Us girls (+ Leif) then went to the dodgy area of Wien to get some cheap and pretty shoes. We then again met up in the evening and went outside Rathaus to see the Life Ball (one of the biggest charity events in the world - supporting the fight against AIDS). Such a sight, so many costumes and glitter since this event is very popular within Vienna's gay community. While in Vienna, everybody of course wanted to eat some good sushi and we went to this fancy place at Mariahilferstrasse called DOTS which was all white and had exclusively Kartell chairs (you Icelanders will know what I'm talking about). The sushi was yummy and the white wine did its part. Because of the nice weather, we walked down to MQ and enjoyed our cheap white wine bottles which everybody had brought with them. Then it was off to Pratersauna where news about the new volcano worried us Icelandic cousins a bit but that didn't stop people from partying some more.
On Sunday, we went to Prater in the afternoon and I nearly pissed my pants (from laughter) watching Ingibjörg screaming on Live-Camera while she was high high up in the air in the most frightening ride of the amusement park. Afterwards we went to Vapiano and had delicious food (and of course desert - I really really love the deserts there).
Well that's it. A really really good weekend it was indeed!
(P.s. I'm writing in English so the people in the photos above can understand this.. and maybe a few others from last semester who didn't make it this weekend and were greatly miss
